Leder Nano X - Review

The Ledger Nano X is the newest addition to Ledger’s hardware wallets and provides a sleek yet simple way for anyone to store their cryptocurrency.

Unboxing

Upon opening the box, you’ll notice a few different components. The four most important things are:

  • Ledger X

  • USB Cable

  • Recovery Phrase Cards

  • Instructions

In addition to the mentioned items, there are some stickers and other things, but these can all be set to the side. You may want to keep some of the box and packaging for storage as well, but this is up to you.

Ledger X Controls

In order to maneuver across the screens, you’ll want to use the left and right buttons to scroll. To confirm a menu option, click both in at the same time. This can be confusing at first and takes some getting used to.

Ledger X Setup

After unboxing, you’ll want to plug in your Ledger Nano X using the cable provided. The Ledger Nano X is supported by all major operating systems.

  • Once plugged in, you should see something similar to this screen.

  • Click the right button and you’ll see the screen below.

  • Double click the buttons to set up the device. From here, you’ll be asked to create a 4-8 digit PIN code. This PIN Code is your wallets first line of defence.

  • Once the code is created, the devices recovery phrase will be shown. This is arguably the most important part of the setup process. The device is going to display 24 words that are specific to your wallet. Here’s an example:

  • Never ever show this to anyone, as this is all they would need to access your funds. This recovery phrase sheet should be kept in a secure place. This is our tutorial recovery phrase, so there are no funds to be stolen.
  • NOTE: You MUST write these down, and it’s highly recommended to use the notecard provided.
  • In the event the device is stolen, broken, or not working, YOUR sequence of words can be used to recover any funds on the wallet.
  • After being shown all of your keywords, you’ll be asked to confirm all 24 words. Below is an example.

  • Once this is finished, you have successfully set up your Ledger Nano X!

  • Next, you’ll need to navigate to the cryptocurrency you want to store. For the purposes of this tutorial, we will use Bitcoin. Hover over the currency of choice, and double click the buttons.

  • From here, you’ll be asked to enter an optional password for your computers Ledger Live Access. An extra line of defence can’t hurt, so I’d recommend making a password.

LedgerLiveStep3-645x500.png

  • Once this step is done, you are in! From here, you can send and receive cryptocurrency! If you don’t have an account already, click the + sign in the bottom left to get started.

Improvements from Ledger Nano S

Ledger is known to be one of the most transparent and best companies in the cryptocurrency space and they have once again lived up to expectations.

Hopefully, this review gave you some valuable information and will allow you to make an educated purchase.

Larger Screen Size

One of the most popular complaints from the community about the old Ledger Nano S is that it was hard to see the screen. Because of this, the Ledger team has increased the device size on this model to 72mm x 18.6mm x 11.75mm (Left) compared to the old 56.95mm x 17.4mm x 9.1mm (Right).

Increased Amount of Assets

The Ledger team has heard plenty of community feedback asking for an increase in the number of assets the device can store. And oh did the Ledger team deliver. The entire list of assets can be viewed on the Ledger website.
